Streetscape Renovation Project

Thanks to very generous community support, the Dundee Business District along Underwood Ave. is undergoing a landscaping renovation this Fall. The Project consists of renovating the landscape of Dundee’s two-block business district using design principles that are aesthetically pleasing, focused on native plants and ecological sustainability, including plants to attract and feed pollinators, reduce maintenance and thrive in the relatively harsh conditions of a commercial streetscape. The work would include ameliorating existing conditions currently preventing the thriving of plantings, including removing existing soil and weed-barrier fabric, replacing and increasing the depth of the substrate so plants roots can grow deeper, improving drainage, and installing plant material more appropriate for the streetscape conditions. The new design was graciously developed by Kinghorn Gardens, who will also provide a full year of professional maintenance, including frequent watering by tank trucks for the first 60 days to assure sound establishment of the new plant materials.

Installation September 16 - October 1, 2024

Free Plants - Join Us at Dundee Dig: Underwood Ave. Plant Rescue
Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15, from 8:00am to Noon

The business district streetscape, as you know, is being renovated with eco- and pollinator-friendly new perennial plantings, so the existing plant material must be removed to make room for the new which will be installed later in September. That means many plants need a new home. Neighbors are invited to come and dig up the plants they want – bring your own shovels, containers, and other appropriate garden tools and equipment. Volunteers will be available to answer your questions and show you where you can dig, and the few places where NOT to dig. We ask that you arrive early and meet at the Dundee clock. This is the beginning of an exciting transformation for our business district landscape. If you would like to assist in the project as a volunteer or have questions, please email dundeemerchantsassociation@gmail.com.
